Sept. 4 – Hilltop Chapel of West Plains will host a musical JAM Session at the West Plains Skate Park on Saturday, September 4th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The feature performer will be Christian Hip-Hop Rap Artist Da Mac. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Hilltop Chapel, six miles south of West Plains on Highway 17. Sept. 4 – The Summersville VFW will have a concert featuring the Bressler Brothers, The Ragler Band and more at 7:30PM. Tickets are $5 for adults, those age 13 and under get in for free.

The cost is $10 per bike or car for the ride only, the ride and a dinner is $15 or $25 for couples, and a ride, dinner, and a dance is $20, or $25 for a couple. The ride will start at noon. The ride will start from the school down Broadway to Porter Wagoner to Highway 63 to Willow Springs, then to Mountain View, and return to West Plains.

Sept. 12 – Next Step Church, at the abandoned go-kart track north of West Plains will be hosting the Fall Sustainability Festival Sunday, September 12, from 10 am to 6 pm. The festival will feature talks and demonstrations on achieving self-sufficiency. There also will be musicians, food, craft and plant sales, and activities for children. Admission is free.

Oct. 15 – The fall qualification shoot for retired law enforcement officers in Arkansas will be held on Friday, October 15 starting at 8:30 AM. The shoot will be held at the law enforcement firing range on Baxter CR 782 off State Highway 201 North. The cost for each retired officer is $10.00, payable in advance at the Sheriff’s Office.

Meetings for The Texas County Memorial Hospital breastfeeding support group are held every fourth Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the education room at the hospital. Susan Johnson, a registered nurse and childbirth educator at TCMH, will facilitate the breastfeeding support group. The group is open to mothers that are currently breastfeeding or expectant mothers who are planning to. Mothers may bring their breastfeeding children to the meeting. The support group is free but those that are attending are asked to sign up with the department.
